Jeni and Mary-Claire did a podcast earlier in the year with Allissa of Massage Business Blueprint entitled, “What to Know Before Taking a Massage CE Class” (episode 147). In it, we covered many important things to know before signing up for any massage class.
Today, I’m going to mention some specifically relating to our ashiatsu classes (we can go on and on ad nauseam on the subject in general.) 😉
Before you sign up for our barefoot massage class, understand basic yet important need-to-know items such as:
❀ What are your goals for learning barefoot massage? We don’t want you 2 feet deep into class before you realize that your client base (or target clientele) won’t want deep tissue barefoot massage. If you want to work (or do work already) on athletes or deep tissue clients, then perfect!
❀ Do you have health issues? Can you receive deep tissue compressive massage? You’ll be receiving a lot in our classes- 2 + hours for each of the 1st 2 days.
Topical allergies? Please let us know ahead of time. We don’t want you breaking out due to someone’s detergent or foot cleaner.
❀ Have you had recent surgery? If you’ve gotten implants-9 months recovery is recommended to receive barefoot massage. This means that you need to wait until after class to get them or wait 9 months.
Other implants like hardware from a broken bone? Check with your instructor prior to signing up.
Are you recovered enough to work? Know what’s entailed to perform the modality. Ask your instructor before you sign up if it’s ok to attend.
❀ Are you pregnant? Congrats! Due to safety and liability issues, we cannot allow any therapist to receive prone or supine work while expecting a baby. And receiving is a part of class, so please wait until after the baby is born and you are fully healed.
❀ Cancellation policy. We know you plan to attend, but if you can’t for some reasons, you may not be able to roll over your payment to another class. Please don’t sign up if you think you may try to reschedule your barefoot training because your favorite boy band comes to town the weekend of class.
❀ Do you have questions? Ask your instructor what’s on your mind. Our instructors are all super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
If you don’t receive communication from your barefoot massage instructor prior to class, please email or call them. It’s probable they have sent you info but it’s gone into your junk email.
We’re more than happy to communicate prior to signing up for class as well as answer any questions a therapist has prior to attending barefoot massage training.
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll get a confirmation email with pertinent information.
All of our instructors also send out specific information prior to class, such as:
❀ what to bring-linens, slippers, foot sanitizer, etc.
❀ ideas of places to stay and eat
❀ directions (and the physical address)
❀ provisions in the training studio
Some people read these emails 15 times and take them very seriously and they have everything when they walk in the door Day 1.
That’s the way we both are, well prepared whenever we take a class.
Yet some people don’t even bother to look at the email.
When you get a response from your instructor telling you what to bring, then you make sure that you bring all the items. You should be
” ? Making a list
Checking it twice
We’re gonna find out who’s
Naughty or Nice ?”
At least contact your instructor if, for example, you don’t have a cream holster and you’re supposed to bring one. Maybe she has one you can buy or use. She’ll appreciate knowing ahead of time.
Don’t wait until the night before class to read everything your instructor sends you.
(It FLOORED us that quite a few massage therapists attending our class at the World Massage Festival this past August didn’t realize that they were supposed to bring linens. )
As a general rule of thumb, following these guidelines will help you be properly prepared to sign up and be ready-to-go for not only our FasciAshi barefoot massage courses, but any massage CE training.
Ready to sign up? Here ya go!
Sharing is caring! Pass this info along to anyone who’s thinking about signing up for our barefoot training. It’s better to be prepared and ask a lot of questions.
