Last month at the 2018 World Massage Festival in Las Vegas, we taught the biggest ashiatsu class on record!
We had almost 100 massage therapists (93, to be exact) sign up for a full day of training in our HandsFree Ashiatsu class at the World Massage Festival. Five of our FasciAshi instructors traveled from across the country to meet up for a feet-up just off the Vegas Strip. Jeni Spring, Mary-Claire Fredette, Julie Marciniak, Dawn Dotsonand Sara Newberry joined forces and shared little samples of what it takes to be a Barefoot Massage Therapist.
We worked hard to make this a fun introductory class, so that many therapists could try it out and see if massaging with their feet is right for them, and potentially right for their clients.
Jeni was teaching sidelying massage on BodyCushion systems for a matwork based barefoot massage session, giving a tease at the Fijian classes we’ll be offering next year, while Mary-Claire was at the Palpation Station, helping the LMT’s awaken the sensitivity of their soles! In one corner, Sara was FASCIAnating everyone with the prone FasciAshi strokes on massage tables, and in the opposite corner, Julie was whipping out all the amazing supine myofascial ashiatsu work. Off in the distance, there was Dawn, cracking people up as she guided them through a fun yoga and mobility practice, to help get their bodies ready to massage.

Many therapists told us how much they loved the round-robin format of our class. The fact that we were able to maintain smaller groups within the large attendance helped each instructor to convey their topic of expertise and share their passion for barefoot massage with individual attention to the massage therapists. We were able to keep the excitement and energy going throughout this 8 hour class, as each group of therapists passed through 4 of the 5 total mini-classes presented. Giving everyone a sample of what we each have to offer at the Center for Barefoot Massage shows our profession how this one day in training is just the tip of the iceberg.
